Honestly, it’s like they expect us to keep paying for their electricity on top of everything else. How dare we expect them to take responsibility for their own costs?

Don’t forget the water and the pollution, they might faint on seeing them getting charged for it.

Aren’t they paying for it already? Don’t think they’re subsidized in any way.

Crazy how companies act shocked when asked to pay for the literal resources they drain nonstop.

The audacity of charging for energy… as if it’s not their main function to use it.

Data center worker here. I’m not sure what this meme is getting at, but we pay the same for power as everyone else, with some of our locations getting slightly better deals as per contracts with the power company. Its not anything drastic. We pay a LOT for electricity.

many data centers are already paying regular power rates but the price still goes up for everyone. I think they should have to pay an extra tax or a higher rate if they consume above a certain percentage of their area’s total power usage. If a data center consumes enough water or electricity to increase prices significantly for the people living in the area they should be the primary party to pay towards upgrades to infrastructure to maintain supply and equalize a bit, maybe even just a tax to subsidize the price increase for residential customers.
